Ideal for your high current DC circuit
The PK16™ capacitor can be universally used for the assembly of low inductance DC buffer circuits and DC filters; with its high energy density it can replace banks of series-connected electrolytic capacitors as well as large film capacitors in rectangular cases.
The capacitance in a DC buffer circuit must be sufficiently sized to both handle and smoothen the occurring ripple currents.
The traditional use of series-/parallel-connected electrolytic capacitors offered large capacitance at seemingly low cost, however the low cost per microfarad is countered by the very low current strengh, the high sensitivity to voltage and current surges, as well as a substantial risk of failures in the field, resulting in high maintenance cost.
Our advanced know-how in special capacitor film coating and many years of practical experience in designing and manufacturing capacitors have allowed us to develop our PK16™ range with high capacitance density. With fivefold the current strength of conventional electrolytic capacitors, it is not necessary to provide the same capacitance in film technology to handle a given current.
Instead, the user now gets a superior technical solution within the same - or even less - space, offering:
Thanks to its compact cylindrical design this capacitor is ideal for both the electrical and mechanical requirements of high-speed IGBT converters.
Its robust terminals and the robust fixing stud allow for very simple, reliable mounting and connection that unites lowest inductance and supreme current strength.
The particularly large clearance and creepage distances make this design suitable for a wide range of operating voltages. As a result, existing standard converter concepts can easily be adapted to new applications without having to change the principal construction and to re-approve the entire system.

With our long year know how and first-class production facilities, we are manufacturing capacitors in two basic technologies: MKP and MKPg™. In MKP capacitors, the winding elements are surrounded by poison-free vegetable oil, in MKPg™, capacitors, they are immersed by neutral insulation gas.
When designing our product ranges, we focussed on the best possible technical features combined with eco-friendliness and operational safety, using special metallizing patterns, our SINECUT slitting technology and optimized winding geometries. Besides excellent ratio of capacitance to volume, our power capacitors distinguish themselves by high AC-voltage load capacity and outstanding suitability for high rms and surge currents. Unlike some of our competitors who proudly quote fantasy ratings, we have really tested our capacitors to their rated values, allowing for sufficient reserves and guaranteeing flawless operation within the specifications.
Our capacitors are well-suited for all conventional applications in power factor correction, and can - if required - be adapted to your most critical and toughest requirements. They all have a self-healingdielectric and are provided with an irreversible overpressure disconnector (break-action mechanism, "BAM ").
Safe and reliable connection is guaranteed by our original CAPAGRIP™ capacitor terminal in the three sizes K, L and M. Having been copied by numerous competitors all over the world, our terminal has become a kind of standard for PFC capacitors. Be warned, however, of cheap copies which may be optically identical, but lacking the reliable grip of the original CAPAGRIP™.
Technical layout, testing and application accord to IEC60831, UL810 and CSA 22.2.
All capacitors with voltage ratings up to 660Vrms have been tested and approved by the CSA organisation to UL and CSA standards.
Available in the range from 1.25 to 50kvar, for rated voltages of up to 1000Vrms/1400Vac.
All MKPg Types listed in the catalogue can be supplied in identical shape as MKP version with oil-filling.

AC Capacitors in aluminium can with overpressure protection, for General Use
Our capacitors of the E12 and E33 series are universally-suited for lighting and motor applications as well as power factor correction and power electronics. Their winding element of self-healingpolypropylene film is immersed in eco-friendly vegetable oil and designed for highest requirements regarding operational life and functional safety even at high operating temperatures and other extreme conditions such as high humidity.
Connection is made through a convenient push wire terminal which includes the discharge resistor.
The hermetical aluminium can is provided with an integrated overpressure safety mechanism (break-action mechanism, " BAM ") that disconnects the capacitor irreversibly from the supply in the event of afailure.
The E12/E33 ranges comply with the "Type B" classification under lighting standard IEC/EN61048 as well as with "Class P2" under motor capacitor standard IEC/EN 60252-1.
Please mind our safety remarks on the use of lighting capacitors in critical environment.
E12 available up to 130µF 300Vrms. Approved by VDE as "Type B" to IEC/EN61048, IEC/EN61049, as "Class P2" to IEC/EN 60252-1, and by UL to UL 810/840.
E33 available up to 100µF 450-500Vrms. Approved by VDE as "Class P2" to IEC/EN 60252-1, and by UL to UL 810/840.
