The particle analyzer LA-960 operates on the basis of static laser light scattering (acc. ISO 13320) and was developed as a solution to customer requirements for a high-performance, flexible, and easy to use instrument for a wide variety of applications - from particle charactarization of powders and granules to the measuring of suspensions and emulsions. It can be ordered in different configurations for

The complete processing time from one sample to the next is only 1 minute, this is only a quarter of the usual time up to now. An integrated system and software automation guarantees simple operation and excellent reproducibility of the measuring results. The measuring cells are located on a movable slide which makes changing the dispersion unit a matter of seconds.

Single range-Samples can be measured over the complete range (0.01 to 5000 μm) without the need to combine different measurements and/or change lenses.

The particle analyzer LA-960 features a powerful circulation system for wet measurements. Thanks to the increased sensitivity small particles with a diameter up to 10 nm are reliably detected. In combination with the evaluation software the system sets new standards regarding precision, speed and resolution.
For dry measurements the effective dispersion unit PowderJet can be used. Thanks to the combination of dry measurement cell with integrated dispersion nozzle and suction mechanism, a great variety of powders can be dispersed and measured quickly and reliably.

Function Principle

The good results for measurements in the sub-micron range are mainly based on the fact that with very fine particles the strong, blue LED light source ensures a clear signal with large scattering angles. These signals are recorded by the innovative 4-channel detectors with increased sensitivity and an extremely high reading frequency of 5,000 values per second. This makes it possible to measure many new materials in the nanometre range which up to now required other methods such as photon correlation spectroscopy (PCS). This is a clear advantage for the user because the analytical performance in combination with a wide measuring range can, in certain circumstances, save the expenditure for a further particle analyser.

The optical layout of LA-960 uses a light path that is about 4 times the length of that of conventional devices. By extending the light path, the signal/noise ratio was considerably improved.

Thanks to the reverse Fourier optics and the light path folded by mirrors, a very compact design size was realized. A newly developed segmented multi-element detector with special arrangement and increased sensitivity of the individual detectors allows the light diffracted at a small angle by large particles to be accuray recorded.

The effectiveness of these new developments is exemplified by the very high resolution of LA-960. For example, it is possible when measuring a multi-modal distribution to resolve five separate modes. Three of these modes can be within a single decade.

The CAMSIZER P4 is a compact laboratory instrument for simultaneous measurement of particle size distribution, particle shape and additional parameters of powders and granules.

Function Principle

The CAMSIZER P4 uses the principle ofdigital image analysis (ISO 13322-2). The sample is transported to the measurement field via a vibratory feeder where the particles drop between a planar light source and two CCD cameras. The projected particle shadows are recorded at a rate of more than 60 images per second and analyzed.In this way almost every single particle in the bulk material flow is recorded and evaluated. Thus, it is possible to measure a wide range of particles from 20 μm to 30 mm extremely accuray, without having to switch measuring ranges or make adjustments.

Thanks to its extremely short exposure times, the novel LED strobe light source allows very sharp images to be produced and distortion-free determination of the projection areas. The sharp contrast allows, at the same time, details of the surface structure of the particles to be seen almost like through a microscope. The frequency of the light flashes is so high that the strobing is not visible to the naked eye.

With the unique, patented dual-camera system a great depth of sharpness, and therefore maximum precision across the entire measuring range, is obtained.The zoom camera provides maximum resolution down to the fine range, while the basic camera also records larger particles and guarantees a high statistical certainty in the results. This ensures the excellent reproducibility of the CAMSIZER measuring results, even if only a relatively small sample amount is available. The results are saved in at least 3,000 size classes.
