髓過氧化物酶（MPO）是一種四聚體含血紅素蛋白,，主要由中性粒細胞大量產(chǎn)生，在其中發(fā)揮重要的抗微生物作用,。當粒細胞脫顆粒時,，MPO會被釋放到細胞外空間。作為中性粒細胞“呼吸爆發(fā)"的一部分,，它能通過過氧化氫（H?O?）和氯離子（Cl?）生成次氯酸（HOCl）,。此外,，MPO還能利用過氧化氫氧化酪氨酸生成酪氨酰自由基。次氯酸和酪氨酰自由基均具有細胞毒性,，可有效殺滅細菌及其他病原體,。遺傳性髓過氧化物酶缺乏癥會增加個體患免疫缺陷的風(fēng)險。
研究表明,，MPO水平升高與冠狀動脈疾病相關(guān),。2003年有研究提出，MPO可能作為胸痛患者心肌梗死的敏感預(yù)測指標,。此后,，大量文獻（已發(fā)表逾百篇）進一步證實了MPO檢測在心臟病患者中的臨床價值。2010年的補充研究進一步優(yōu)化了這一臨床應(yīng)用：通過聯(lián)合檢測MPO和C反應(yīng)蛋白（CRP）,，相較于單獨檢測CRP,，可更精準地預(yù)測死亡風(fēng)險。
